Nyack. It’s a word that only resonates for a small portion of those living in the Lower Hudson Valley, a town just off New York’s Tappan Zee Bridge that many would not expect to have an extensive and well-documented history. But Nyack is only one example of the larger problems facing Small Town America. From its humble beginnings as a quarrying business and shoe manufacturer, to a decade long Urban Renewal that displaced hundreds of minority residents, Nyack’s history is one that helps to explain current issues facing the town today and offers potential solutions. Because the more informed residents and others are, the more we can all work towards a better future.
